Original Art Sale to Benefit Puerto Rico

UPDATE: All of the ROLLER GIRL pages have been sold! Thank you so much for the amazing response. Still two ALL'S FAIRE pages available! xo

If you've read ROLLER GIRL, you may have noticed that Astrid, the main character, describes herself as half Puerto Rican. When I was writing this book—my first with human characters—I based some of the characters on my own family. At the time, my husband and I were hoping for, and finally expecting, our first baby. While drawing the pages, I spent a lot of time imagining what he or she would be like. Like Astrid, our baby would be half Puerto Rican, since that's where my husband is from. (Well, Puerto Rico via upstate New York). We even thought if the baby was a girl we'd name her Astrid! ...Probably lucky we had a boy, because that might have been weird.

When Hurricane Maria ravaged the island, I wanted to do something. I donated money, but hearing the cruel words of the US President towards an island in crisis convinced me to try harder. The very best things in my life have come to me through Puerto Rico, and even if this gesture is a tiny drop in the bucket, it feels good to help.

I decided to sell some original pages from ROLLER GIRL and ALL'S FAIRE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL with all proceeds going to humanitarian aid in Puerto Rico. These are the original black and white ink drawings printed in the book. The pages for sale are below, and instructions for buying a page below that.

Thank you so much for reading, and my very best to you and yours.

How to Buy

Ok, I've never done this before, so here's what I came up with!

1) Send me a direct email at victoriajamiesondesign(at)gmail.com and tell me which piece you'd like to buy (perhaps with 2nd and 3rd choice just in case!)

2) I'll email you back to let you know if the page is still available.

3) Once you receive confirmation from me, within 24 hours please send me a receipt of your $200 donation. I personally donated to Vieques Love. The organizer is a family connection, and Vieques (a tiny island off of Puerto Rico) holds a special place in my heart. If I don't hear back from you in 24 hours I'll open the page back up for someone else to buy.

4) I will mail you your piece! Buyer pays for shipping. I'll let you know how much it comes to and you can PayPal me the amount.

...I think that's it! Hopefully this all goes smoothly! I am visiting schools and libraries this week, but I will do my best to respond promptly and update my website as pages are sold. And thanks. <3
